Children, Youth & Parent Education
F.L.Y. (Faith, Learning & You!)
F.L.Y. is our interactive Sunday School experience for children, pre-K through Grade 6. Children “fly” each week to destinations, where they experience a scripture story in a variety of ways. The repetition allows the scripture to cultivate and the variety acknowledges that children learn in different ways. The experience begins with music (vocal and Orff Instruments), after which children “fly” off to various destinations including storytelling, computers, cooking and drama. Once a year, we plan a FLY AWAY field trip to a local outreach ministry or service agency for a tour and hands-on help.
Pageants and Intergenerational Events
Our families gather for Intergenerational Events at the Education Hour several times annually. GOING GLOBAL on World Communion Sunday features a potluck International Buffet and a program that brings the world to First & Central. The third Sunday in Advent is the premiere of a children’s Christmas pageant drama; a pancake breakfast is served by the men of F&C on Easter; and a breakfast is enjoyed by all on Christian Education Celebration Sunday in May.
Enrichment
Following the Children’s Greeting during worship, children (age 4 through grade 3) are invited to participate in Enrichment. Sharing a snack and time of faith-based activities and games, they learn a scripture story to tell during the service twice a year. On several Sundays (e.g., World Communion Sunday, Re-Affirmation of Baptismal Vows, Easter, Youth Sunday,), children remain in the sanctuary to experience worship with their families and receive worship bags.
K.A.P.O.W. (Kids Actively Participating Offering Worship)
Children of all ages play a part in worship at First & Central, as you’ll see on any given Sunday! Children participate as greeters, acolytes, ushers and communion bread bearers. Children are not only welcomed, but empowered to know that they are the church!
Youth Group
Youth (grades 7-12) meet twice a month following the service for Youth Group — a time of building relationships, serving others, having fun — all faithfully! From participating in the AIDS Walk to playing football in Rodney Square; from decorating Easter Eggs with children at a local shelter to pizza parties; from planning Youth Sunday to raising support for the annual mission trip, that’s our F&C Youth Group!
